This is common attire for Boston these days. We dress him in a diaper and wrap him in an old towel when we are waiting for a bowel movement from him. The poor little guy only relieves his bowels oh, every 10 days or so (this week we are up to 12 days). As you can imagine he gets quite uncomfortable during this time. He gets so gassy and fussy and then when the flood finally comes, it is a HUGE mess - guaranteed worst blow-out in history.
Yes, he is strictly breast-fed.
No, he is NOT constipated - it is definately liquid when he goes.
Yes, we went to the doctor today.
Apparently, it is not unheard of for a breastfed baby to go as long as 14 days without a BM. However, if they are going over 10 days without BM the doctor said they like to have them tested to see if everything is working right inside. This is where we are with Boston, so the test was ordered.
The best news for the day was that it is ok to give him suppositories once or twice a week. Hopefully, Boston out grows this problem soon as it is difficult to go anywhere when waiting for the flood. Also, we can't let anyone hold him without an explicit warning of the possible consequences.

One of my babies was the same way. Kind of crazy just waiting and waiting! Here's a little unsolicited advice-- I gave him a bottle of water mixed with brown sugar every few days. The molasses in the brown sugar is a natural laxative. Sorry, sweet Boston, that we're all talking so freely about your bowels!
NOT fun! Good luck with that. It sounds pretty uncomfortable for all involved!
Lily was the same way. She would go days without a BM and then all of a sudden, EXPLOSION!!! As long as something is coming I guess it's alright.
Aw, poor guy! That is tough stuff! I love the outfit for awaiting the big one :) Evan had his first carseat blowout today while I was out running errands. I thought he had it rough when he goes once every other day! But my pediatrician told me the same thing- you could technically go weeks! Although now that Evan's getting solids I'm sure it's a little different. Good luck with the relief systems you are trying. We are loving the tummy massages that you taught us, by the way :)
suppositories were my best friend with Logan! And yeah, good luck with that!
SCARY!!! I know you probably are not looking to get everyone's opinion BUT...I would try giving him Probiotics. They help with digestion. You can get it in powder form (they have some that are for babies) at a health food store. You get some on your finger and then let the baby suck it off. Good luck!
frustrating that that is still going on for you guys! hopefully he'll straighten himself out here soon:)
Ugh, that just sounds terrible. I'm sorry! I hope it gets better soon.
